Parent Education Opportunities:
Because children don't come with instruction manuals, we offer a variety of options for parent education. The Hull Family Network sponsors monthly parent education on a variety of topics. We also have a large library on parent education topics which is available for families to check out. We can mail selected handouts/articles to families unable to get to the center to check out our library. We offer Parents As Teachers home visiting for a monthly individualized visit to address typical child development questions. Lastly, we can reimburse the cost of attendance to outside providers parent education workshops with prior notice.
All workshops planned by us are free, we do ask for parents to register by calling (781) 925-0771 x21 as we may need to cancel if there is not sufficient attendance or change the location based on registration numbers. Free childcare is available during most workshops but must be registered for in advance.
For the 2007-2008 School Year we have the following workshops planned:
October 17th: Building Self- Esteem by South Shore Mental Health, Hull High School Exhibition Room,7:00 p.m.
November 6th: Back to Basics: Teaching Children Values by Jeannine Fitzgerald, Hull High School Exhibition Room 7 p.m.
January 24th: Emotions Coaching by Jeannine Fitzgerald, Hull High School room C206, 7 p.m. Emotions dominate the world of children. Children who can regulate their emotions have a greater chance of regulating behavior. Our responsibility is to support every child's fluency in the language of emotions. This workshop will explore four adult responses to emotions, the process of emotional development in children, and activities for supporting self-regulation.
February 13th: First Aid for parents with Sharon Striglio, RN Hull Family Network 7 p.m. Sharon will review basic first aid for children including an introduction to CPR and a variety of skills for providing basic care for common children injuries.
March 25th: Exploring Positive Guidance with Jeannine Fitzgerald, Hull High School Exhibition Room 7 p.m. Positive Guidance focuses on helping children learn to solve their problems and manage their behaviors instead of punishing them for behaviors that are symptoms of their developmental stage or problems they have and can not solve. This approach to discipline allows children to develop personal strength and understanding necessary to make wise choices, to get along with others, to express emotions in healthy ways, to solve conflicts non-violently, and to overcome obstacles and bounce back from adversity.
