2009-2010 School Year

Dear parents,

We welcome your students to a new year at Hull High School and we  anticipate much growth in all areas.

Academic Support is designed to assist students in reaching IEP goals, understanding difficult concepts and to help them complete challenging homework assignments.  Students are encouraged to use their planners to record homework assignments after every class so that assignments will not be forgotten.  Please review your son's/daughter's planner nightly to insure that students are recording homework assignments and that they are attempting/completing them.  Provide positive reinforcement for attempts at or the successful completion of homework.  If students have a problem with any assignment, encourage them to bring the unfinished assignment to Academic Support class, where they can receive individualized help.  We hope that, with this extra support,  students will maximize their success and reach IEP goals.

The Foundations of English class has been developed for students who have struggled in traditional English classes.  It is geared to improving both reading and writing skills.  The writing portion is supported by the Project Read Written Language Program which focuses on sentence structure as well as applied writing.  It teaches written language sequentially and systematically, coupling creative freedom with direct multi-sensory skill instruction.  interesting, age appropriate short stories and novels are used to maximize attention and  reading comprehansion.  Classes will be kept small to maximize teacher support.
