The Mission
The faculty, staff, and administration of Hull High School believe that the school exists for the benefit of the students and community. We value our students as individuals and are convinced that active involvement in our academic programs, enriched by fine arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities, is the best means to attain the mission of the Hull Public Schools. It is our mandate to motivate, inspire, and empower our students to achieve at the highest possible levels of education, and to promote respect, integrity, creativity, compassion, and self-esteem. Therefore, we must provide a safe, comfortable, and secure learning environment, one which encourages our students to pursue their aspirations, to maximize their aptitudes, to develop their intellectual curiosity, and to apply prior learning. We
must inspire students to fulfill their potential and, at the same time, prepare them to participate in the global marketplace as citizens, consumers, and workers. In so doing, each individual has the opportunity to leave Hull High School with a sense of purpose and direction, and with the means to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
Student Expectations for Learning
The Hull High Student:
- understands the concept of accountability and has a sense of responsibility for his/her own behavior and performance.
- demonstrates effective communication skills, both spoken and written.
- uses a variety of strategies and resources to solve mathematical problems in a technologically complex society.
- is aware of the scientific method, and through its application, is better able to understand and explain his/her world.
- understands the importance of personal physical fitness and good health.
- is prepared for higher education or has developed viable, entry-level skills for gainful employment.
Beliefs
Hull High School is committed to its expectations for student learning. However, the school community knows that this educational experience offers so much more to each child.
Therefore, Hull High School also hopes that each student:
- develops the ability to be a life-long learner.
- is able to think clearly, critically, and logically in decision making.
- reads actively and critically for a variety of purposes.
- reacts to various types of literature.
- sees the need for and understands the role of technology in the modern world.
- demonstrates as awareness of social problems, employing appropriate social science methodologies in order to form perspectives and act upon them.
- is aware of the values of other societies and races while developing an appreciation for his/her own culture and achievements.
- understands and accepts the importance of the individual in American democratic society.
