Occupational Therapy with Mrs. Faherty : Grades 1-8:
I am so excited for Halloween and I know your kids are too. Halloween is a great time to explore different sensory systems. Here are some activities to enjoy:
* designing a pumpkin face for Mom or Dad to carve
* digging out and squeezing pumpkin slop. I know it can be messy, but just put down a lot of newspaper and have the kids wear old clothing that can easily be washed. Some kids may not like the feel, but most kids just love to explore the mushy gooshiness of it all.
* help to pass out candy at the door. Have your kids drop the candy in all the bags to help them work on their visual motor skills
* paint, draw, color pictures of pumpkins, ghosts, monsters, ect.
* make Halloween treats together.
* have your kids sort out the different candies from their bags into piles. This is another great visual motor activity and kids like to count out how much is in each pile too.
Please continue to work with your children on their writing, their daily organization of their homework and encourage excercise to help them wake up their bodies before they sit down for homework. Many children enjoy a crunchy snack or sugarless gum and chewing can help with a child's ability to focus on their work.
Happy Halloween. Hope it is a fun and safe one.
