GRADES 6 ART CLASSES:
GRADE 7 ART CLASSES:
GRADE 8 ART CLASSES:
For the opening week of school all students will be making and color coding their portfolios and going over the hand-out sheets in class. All hand-outs will be signed by the student as proof on his/her understanding of the information.
PLEASE READ:
~~FAILURE TO COMPLETE A 10 point HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT WILL RESULT IN A "0" GRADE for students in grades 6, 7, & 8~~
Each unit of study usually consists of: one homework/research assignment, MAY include one test, and one final work folder including all of the sketches, homework, class notes, research, and the final finished art project.
At the beginning of the school year each student has in their portfolio:
~a copy of the classroom rules
~a copy of the BASIC Art Rubric
~a copy of "Procedures for Art Projects"
These are also posted in the classroom and read aloud and discussed at the first class in September.
BASIC RUBRIC FOR ART CLASSES:
This is the rubric that will be used for all art classes. Modifications may be made to adjust the rubric to specific projects, but that information will be given to students as part of the usual preparation at the beginning of the unit. These specifications, if any, will be given to the students on a hand-out sheet and they will keep them in the project work folder as a reference guide. The specifications will be discussed in class and will generally follow the guidelines of the basic rubric. If there are no modified specifications, the basic rubric alone will be used.
1. (A) Finished project is of the highest quality and may go beyond the expectations of the assignment. Research is excellent and unusually thorough. Evidence of the creative process, (sketches, idea notes, color keys, etc.), is clear and concise and properly dated. No further improvement of the artistic technique is necessary. Overall results of the finished product are excellent.
2. (B) Finished project is very good and the objectives of the assignment have been successfully achieved. Research materials are included and are well organized. The creative process is evident and all sketches, notes, etc. are dated and labeled with name and class section number. The overall technical skills applied are very good and above average.
3. (C) Finished project is of average quality. Most of the objectives of the assignment have been achieved but may need more development and clarification. Research is acceptable but could have been more in depth. Evidence of the creative process is unclear or perhaps not complete, (steps missing..see "Procedure for Art Projects" handout). The student's artistic technique may be in need of more practice.
4. (D) Final project is acceptable, but not of the best quality. Research is minimal. The creative process seems to be incomplete and does not follow through to the completion of the project's goals. The overall artistic technique is of poor quality with some, (but very little), evidence of effort.
5. (F) No credit will be given for this project. Work must be made up or the failure grade will be recorded and averaged in with the term grade. The project was not passed in or showed no effort and did not follow the guidelines of the assignment. The student did not seek extra help.
