HULL INTEGRATED PRESCHOOL
Philosophy
The Hull Public Schools is currently offering three Integrated Preschool classes for children ages three to five. The programs are designed to service children who have been identified as having a disability. A major component of this program is the integration of “typically developing” children who will serve as peer models in order to enhance social and language development. Although the program is organized to serve the requirements of special needs students, the curriculum is designed to suit a variety of learners.
A developmental approach is used within the classroom to allow students to learn at their own pace. Both the students with disabilities and the “typically developing” students benefit from the wide range of developmentally appropriate experiences which promote cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth under the leadership and guidance of a staff committed to excellence.
The classroom staff consists of the teacher, one or more Educational Support Personnel, speech therapist, occupational therapist and physical therapist and the ESP. The classroom teacher and therapists work collaboratively in order to provide a successful learning experience for all students. Therapies are incorporated into the daily routine and all students’ benefit from the small and large group activities implemented by the therapists.
Parents are viewed as valuable partners in the educational process. Communication and collaboration between parents and staff are a priority. A purpose of the program is to provide a nurturing, caring and supportive environment that fosters development of self-esteem.
