Hull Veterans’ Services a member of Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services was established to assist needy, eligible wartime veterans and or their dependent as mandated by Massachusetts General Law 115 Section 5 and regulated by CMR 108 DVS.

Services are provided on request to those veterans who are full-time residents of Hull, who have been honorably discharged from U.S. military service and who meet the asset limitation which is determined at the time of application. A home and one motor vehicle are not included as countable assets. Service is also provided for veterans and or their dependents in filing for VA pension or compensation as each case warrants, health care, Social Security, Supplemental security or disability, burial and grave markers, obtaining military records, rehabilitation, medals, education, bonus and annuity application and many other items. Your Veterans’ Services Officer Michael Cunningham will visit the homes of aged and ill veterans who are unable to visit the office which is located in the Municipal Building. Medical records are necessary to support request for benefits for veterans unable to work because of disability. All others must find work. A Veteran is obligated to utilize alternative sources of income which will be explained when applying.

If an honorably discharged wartime veteran has never filed for a war bonus, application can be taken now with eligibility as follows:

WW II 6 months domicile in Massachusetts immediately prior to entry into Armed Forces between Sept 16, 1940 and Dec 31, 1946. One day to six months actual service $100.00. Six months or more Stateside service $200.00. Foreign service $300.00.

Korea service between June 25, 1950 and Jan 31, 1955. Ninety days service $100.00. Six months or more Stateside service $200.00. One or more days outside continental limits of U.S. $300.00.

Vietnam service between July 1, 1958 and April 1, 1973. Six months service unless discharged as a result of injury or disease incurred or aggravated by this service. Vietnam service $300.00. All others $200.00.

Persian Gulf Regular military theatre bonus $500.00. National Guard and Reserve personnel $300.00 non theatre bonus. Minimum thirty days active duty Aug 2, 1990 to April 11, 1991. Eligibility for $500.00 theatre bonus discharge must show Soutwest Asia Service Medal or under item #18 service in SW Asia with dates

Copy of discharge must accompany all applications.

Currently the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is providing a $1500.00 annuity in two payments January 1 and July 1 each for $750.00. For eligibility the veteran must be 100% disabled as determined by the VA or to the parents of a diseased member of the Armed Forces whose death was caused by injury or disease contracted during active duty in time of war, insurrection or combat.

Burial: Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemeteries have been established in Agawam and Winchendon. Agawam is now open. Pre-registration Interment is being accepted and applications are available at the office of your Veterans’ Services Department. Bourne National Cemetery is also available.

There are many options available to eligible veterans or dependents who are urged to make an appointment with Veterans’ Services Officer Sumner Goldberg. All matters are handled in the strictest of confidence.
